The Helsinki School of Economics ( Finnish : Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulu HKKK ; Swedish: Helsingfors handelshögskola ; English: Helsinki School of Economics ) - in short HSE - is a public business school in the Finnish capital Helsinki . It is home to over 4,000 students and around 500 academic staff. It is now also known as the Aalto University School of Business .

history

The college was founded in 1904 and received on January 16, 1911 under the name Handelshochschule ( Finnish : kauppakorkeakoulu ) college status . 117 students were enrolled in the first year.

A doctoral program was established in 1931, but the first doctorate was not awarded until 6 years later, on October 27, 1937.

Only in 1974 the hitherto valid name was School of Economics in Helsinki School changed. The renaming was preceded by a lively debate on nationalization: Opponents feared a loss of autonomy and the traditional ties to the business world. Because of this, part of the university property was transferred to the Helsinki University of Commerce Foundation.

On January 1, 2010, it merged with the Helsinki University of Technology and the Helsinki University of Art and Design to form the new Aalto University . At the same time, Helsinki School of Economics was renamed Aalto University School of Economics . On August 1, 2012, it renamed itself Aalto University School of Business .
