Johanna Paasikangas-Tella (born March 28, 1974 in Forssa as Johanna Paasikangas ) is a Finnish chess player .

Life

Johanna Paasikangas-Tella learned to play chess from her father when she was five years old. She studied at the Helsinki School of Economics and worked in market research, as a journalist and editor among others, Sanoma Magazines, a business sector of the media group Sanoma from Helsinki . She then became an assistant at the Finnish Parliament . She has been married to the chess player and international master Jussi Tella (* 1971) since 1998 .

At the U16 championship (female) of the European Chess Union in Saltsjöbaden , she finished second behind Krystyna Dąbrowska in 1988 . At the International German Girls' Championship in Dresden in 1992 she was second behind Ilaha Kadimova from Azerbaijan and in front of Inna Gaponenko . In 1992 she became European U16 champion in Rimavská Sobota . She won the Finnish women's individual championship five times: in 1989 in Tampere , 1991 in Tampere, 1992 in Helsinki, 1993 in Naantali and 1994 in Helsinki. She won zone tournaments in Denmark in 1991, 1993 and in Linköping with a two-point lead in 1995. At the European Women's Championship in rapid chess in 1997, she achieved third place in Athens .

With the Finnish women's national team, she took part in all eight chess Olympiads from 1986 to 2000 , with a total of 60.5 points from 96 games. In 1986 and 1988 she played on the third board, from 1990 on the top board. She had the best team result in 1986 with a 13th place, the best individual result in 1994 in Moscow with 10 points from 13 games and an Elo performance of 2341. She also took part in two European team championships on the first board of the Finnish women's national team : 1992 and 1997 , where she received an individual silver medal in 1997 for her score of 7 out of 9 on the first board with an Elo rating of 2486.

In club chess, for example, she won the Finnish team championship with Garde Helsinki in the 2000/01 season. This season she had the best result of all players in the top Finnish league on the seventh board with 5.5 points from 7 games. Currently (as of September 2011) she plays for EtVaS Vantaa .

Johanna Paasikangas-Tella holds the title of International Women's Champion (WIM), which was awarded to her for winning the zone tournament in 1991, and FIDE Champion . She achieved a norm for receiving the title of Grand Master of Women (WGM) at the 7th Brauhaus-Riegele tournament in Augsburg in January 2003, where she finished third behind Jiří Lechtýnský and Lothar Arnold . Her Elo rating is 2215 (as of June 2016), making her top of the Finnish Elo ranking for women. Her highest rating to date was 2325 in July 1997.
