The Jewish cemetery Wilhermsdorf is a Jewish cemetery near Wilhermsdorf in the Middle Franconian district of Fürth .

The 3,950 m² cemetery is surrounded by a brick wall and is located on a hill on the FÜ18 district road between the Lenzenhaus and the owl screaming . There are still about 500 mazewot left . Many of the tombstones are already badly weathered because they were made of sandstone . The gravestones are mainly from the 18th to early 20th century. The dead from the neighboring communities of Dietenhofen and Markt Erlbach were also buried in the cemetery.

It is believed that the cemetery was laid out in the middle of the 15th century, because a document from 1842 reports a tombstone from 5212. The oldest surviving and legible tombstone dates from 1690.

A Chewra Kadisha has existed since 1862 . At the request of the Jewish community, the local council decided on December 15, 1863: “Considering that the piece of common land in question is of no use to the Jewish religious community. without leaving anything in return ”. The expansion took place in 1865. The last burial took place on April 8, 1936. The cemetery was desecrated in 1938 and 1945.

Death register

The first entry in the death register kept by the district rabbi Isaak Loewi is the funeral of Abraham Michael Wiener, who died on January 3, 1824 on January 4, 1824. The death register was continued until the last burial in the cemetery on April 8, 1936. On April 5, 1936, the cattle dealer Gottlieb died at the age of 70 after serving two weeks in prison for insulting a local police officer.
