Jürgen Degen (born November 7, 1967 in Hamburg ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Player career
In 1991 Jürgen Degen moved from the association league club VfL 93 Hamburg to the Bundesliga for the newly crowned German champions 1. FC Kaiserslautern . On August 31, 1991, the striker made his Bundesliga debut for the Palatinate. In the 3-0 home win over 1. FC Nürnberg , he came on in the 78th minute for Marcel Witeczek . Just two game days later, Degen was allowed to play for the first time from the start and promptly scored a hat trick in the 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund . However, further missions and especially goals remained in short supply. In the European Cup of National Champions 1991/92 he was eliminated with the Lauterern in the second round against the eventual tournament winner FC Barcelona . In the football Bundesliga 1991/92 Degen made at least 5th place in the table with his club. In order to gain more match practice, the striker was loaned out to the Bundesliga relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf the following season. In 24 games for Fortuna, he scored two goals and could not prevent the team from being relegated. After Degen's return to Lautern, he only came on seven other short assignments there, also due to an injury to the patellar tendon .
After his return to VfL 93 Hamburg in the meantime, Degen was committed in December 1997 by the regional league competitor Hannover 96 , with whom he made promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hanoverians played a strong 1998/99 season and ended up as a newcomer in fourth place in the table. Jürgen Degen scored one goal in seven games, but was never able to prevail against the numerous competition in his position and already switched to third division club SV Meppen during the winter break . Subsequently, Degen played one season each for the soccer clubs TuS Dassendorf, SC Vorwärts-Wacker 04 and Meiendorfer SV in his home town in Hamburg. From 2003 to the end of his career in 2005, the striker was still working for the football department of HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst . There he was instrumental in the sovereign rise from the Association League Hamburg with seven goals in 16 games. In the following season, he completed another 33 games for his club in the northern football league .
