Jürgen Martin (born February 1, 1949 ) is a former German soccer player . The offensive player played three league games at VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga in the 1970/71 season .

career

The attacker went through the youth stations at his hometown club SV Röchling Völklingen and made his debut as a 17-year-old at the side of teammates like goalkeeper Horst Zingraf and striker Josef Christ in the 1966/67 season in the then second-class Regionalliga Südwest . He came to his first regional league assignment on November 27, 1966 in a 2-0 home win against SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken. In his second and third seasons in the Regionalliga, he completed 25 league games and also scored 12 goals each. After a total of 57 regional league games for Völklingen with 25 goals, Jürgen Martin moved within the league for the 1969/70 season to FK Pirmasens . With the FKP he won the runner-up and moved into the Bundesliga promotion round in 1970. In the Regionalliga he had scored four goals in 16 league appearances alongside other players such as Dieter Weinkauff , Peter Gutzeit , Hilmar Weishaar , Robert Jung and Horst Brill . In the promotion round he scored one goal in four appearances against VfL Bochum, Hertha Zehlendorf and VfL Wolfsburg. Mostly, Martin stormed on the left wing.

For the 1970/71 season, the winger was brought into the Bundesliga by VfB Stuttgart; In addition, the Swabians signed Hans Hauser and Gerd Regitz from Borussia Neunkirchen from the Regionalliga Südwest and brought Hartmut Weiß back from Braunschweig. Martin made his debut on March 6, 1971 in a 1-1 home draw against Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga. He stormed the left wing and formed the VfB attack with Manfred Weidmann and Weiß, which was supported from midfield by Jan Olsson , Herbert Höbusch and Horst Haug . Under coach Branko Zebec he only made two more league appearances and after that his time in Stuttgart was already over and he joined LASK Linz for the 1971/72 season and moved to the Austrian Bundesliga .

He made his debut for the team from the capital of Upper Austria under coach Wilhelm Kment on the start day of the 1971/72 championship , on August 20, 1971, in a 4-1 home win against Admira / Wacker on the left wing. Due to his susceptibility to injury, he was only able to play eleven league games (1 goal) alongside other players such as Gerhard Sturmberger , Johann Kondert , Walter Gebhardt , Kurt Leitner and Karl-Heinz Artmann . After his use on May 6, 1972 in a 1-1 away draw at Wacker Innsbruck, his time with the black and whites was over and he returned to his home club SV Röchling Völklingen in the Regionalliga Südwest for the 1972/73 season.

Völklingen had strengthened the team with Horst Berg and Lothar Weschke and played a home game against FC Homburg on the second round match day, August 12, 1972. Martin started on the left wing, but had to be replaced in the 62nd minute due to injury from coach Helmuth Johannsen . It stayed with this mission, his injury consequences did not allow any further use in professional football. Völklingen was runner-up and Jürgen Martin was declared a sports invalid after the season with a total of 74 regional league appearances (29 goals), 3 Bundesliga appearances and eleven (1 goal) games in the Austrian league.
