John Warren Geils Jr. , better known as J. Geils , (born February 20, 1946 in New York City , New York - † April 11, 2017 in Groton , Massachusetts ) was an American musician . He became known as the guitarist and founder of the J. Geils Band .

Life

Born in New York, Geils grew up in Morris Plains .

In 1967 J. Geils founded the Bluestrio J. Geils Band, which consisted of himself ( vocals , guitar ), Danny Klein (Dr. Funk) ( bass ) and Magic Dick (Richard Salwitz) ( harmonica ) in the original line-up . A few years later Peter Wolf (vocals), Seth Justman ( keyboards ) and Stephen Jo Bladd ( drums ) joined and they developed into a rock band. In 1985 the band broke up. In 1992 he formed the duo Bluestime with Magic Dick and released the albums Bluestime and Little Car Blues . In 1999 he divorced his wife after 28 years. In 1999 there was a reunion of the band for a joint tour, in 2006 the official reunion and some joint appearances. In 2012 he finally separated from the band.
