Jacky Samson

Jacques "Jacky" Samson (* 1940 in Paris ; † 3. October 2012 in Précy-sous-Thils , Côte-d'Or department ) was a French jazz - bassist .

Samson, who was the child of immigrants from Guadeloupe , first played guitar , then trumpet and trombone before switching to the double bass . From 1966 he was a member of the trio of pianist Georges Arvanitas for 28 years . He also worked with Ted Curson , Teddy Wilson , Anita O'Day (1970), Dexter Gordon , Ben Webster (1972), Eddie Lockjaw Davis , Sonny Criss , Pepper Adams (1977) and went to South America with Michel Legrand in the 1970s -Tour. Samson participated in 67 recording sessions between 1966 and 2000 and was featured in an episode of the television series Simon Templar . Samson retired from the music business in 2000, lived in Burgundy and died in early October 2012 at the age of 72.
