Jacque Vaughn (born February 11, 1975 in Los Angeles , California ) is a retired American basketball player and current basketball coach. The point guard last played for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA . From 2012 to 2015 he was head coach at Orlando Magic . In 2020 he was appointed interim coach for the Brooklyn Nets .

Career

Jacque Vaughn played college basketball at the University of Kansas from 1993 to 1997 .

Before Vaughn moved to the San Antonio Spurs in 2006 , he played in the NBA for the Utah Jazz (1997 to 2001), which drafted him in 1997 . With the jazz he reached the 1998 NBA finals. His next stops were the Atlanta Hawks ( 2001/02 and 2003/04 ), the Orlando Magic ( 2002/03 ) and the New Jersey Nets (2004 to 2006).

In the 2006/07 season Vaughn was able to win the NBA championship with the Spurs.

He played for Spurs up to and including the 2008/09 season when he ended his active career. In September 2010, Vaughn returned to the San Antonio Spurs, where he worked as an assistant coach until 2012. For the 2012/2013 season, Vaughn was offered the opportunity to become the new Orlando Magic head coach . He succeeded Stan Van Gundy , who had previously been dismissed. In this position, Vaughn worked for Magic until February 2015. After a streak of ten straight defeats, Vaughn was relieved of his duties in Orlando on February 5. Since the 2016/17 season he has been working as an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets . After Nets coach Kenny Atkinson was fired in March 2020, Vaughn took over the Nets as an interim coach.

In the course of his playing career, Jacque Vaughn averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 assists per game in 776 games this season .
