Jacques Doniol-Valcroze

Jacques Doniol-Valcroze (born March 15, 1920 in Paris , † October 6, 1989 in Cannes ) was a French film critic , screenwriter , actor and film director .

life and work

In 1951 Doniol-Valcroze founded the famous film magazine Les Cahiers du cinéma together with André Bazin and became its editor-in-chief. With his writings on film theory as well as his work as an author and director, Doniol-Valcroze is one of the founders of the Nouvelle Vague , which had a decisive influence on French cinema in the 1950s and 1960s.
