The Jagdmuseum Schalksmühle ( Jagdmuseum des Hegerings Schalksmühle-Hülscheid eV ) is a hunting museum in the North Rhine-Westphalian community of Schalksmühle , district Asenbach , in the Märkisches Kreis . It is operated by the Hegering Schalksmühle-Hülscheid and is housed in the premises of the former Vedder switch factory with the street name Asenbach 9, which is now a business park.

history

The hunting museum was opened on October 21, 2004 in Schalksmühle. The preparatory work began in 2002: In the rooms in which the museum uses 350 m² of exhibition space, there were previously around 25 plastic presses from Gebr. Vedder GmbH. The floor of the museum rooms was completely renovated by installing a new window facade, a new floor and, in some cases, new walls. After these beginnings, the usage and museum concept has continued to develop up to the present day: Further exhibits were added, so that there are currently over 1200 exhibits on the subject of hunting in the museum. They come mainly from the estate of deceased hunters from the Schalksmühle region.

collection

You can see the largest collection of horns from native wild and bird species in the Sauerland , including over 600 horns from deer alone and a number of specimens from native bird species. The exhibits also include animal species such as hazel and partridge, which are no longer indigenous today due to changes in their habitat. There are also some hunting trophies from Africa and North America in the collection. In addition, items related to hunting are exhibited, including complete hunting room furnishings, hunting traps and landscape paintings. An exhibition area is also dedicated to the presentation of the history of the Hegering Schalksmühle-Hülscheid. The museum is intended to offer interested parties outside of the hunters an insight into the local wild animal fauna and is aimed in particular at schools and kindergartens. The museum operator names the increasing alienation of humans from nature as the motif and main driving force behind it.

The museum cannot be reached barrier-free .
