Jaicko Lawrence (born August 6, 1991 in Christ Church, Barbados ) is a Barbadian R&B and pop musician. He celebrated in America with his solo single Oh Yeah! first successes. In Europe he made his breakthrough in collaboration with the rapper Carlprit .

Life

Jaicko Lawrence was born in the Christ Church district of Barbados . He began writing and composing his own songs at a young age. After he was expelled from his school because he did not adhere to the regulation of a school uniform and a certain haircut and thus also lost his training position, he began to live from music. Lawrence was dependent on his music by this event and took part in various competitions. He opened all concerts, including tours by Ne-Yo and Rihanna , which took place in his home country. Up until this point he wrote his songs with his father, who also supported him with his studio recordings. Together they performed in different night clubs. On the video platform YouTube , he uploaded his own songs and cover versions of artists who made him known outside of Barbados. In 2006, the record label Capitol Records noticed him and he signed a record deal there in November 2006.

Shortly after his contract, he began working on his first studio album. He has worked with producers such as The Stereotypes (productions for Tupac Shakur and Chris Brown ), the producer and songwriter trio Stargate (productions for Beyoncé Knowles and Rihanna ) and with producer Jim Jonsin (productions with Pitbull and Eminem ). The album was on 1 June 2010 under the name Can I published. In his native Barbados alone, the album sold over 6,000 times. The first single, the song Oh Yeah, was released on August 28, 2009 via EMI-Music , a subsidiary of Universal Music . However, the original version only appeared as a B-side. The title track was a remix in collaboration with American rapper Snoop Dogg . The title became a success. The official music video has been viewed over a million times to date. The song also reached chart positions in Japan and Canada. Furthermore, the track was able to advance to number two in the US “Bubbling Under R & B / Hip-Hop Singles”. Second, the song FFW (Fast Forward) was released. The song did not reach any charts, but it was featured on various samplers, including NOW! Vol. 33 (see Bravo Hits 68 ). A music video was also shot for the song Can I. The song was not released as a single.

During the releases and successes of his debut album, he was gradually nominated for six “Barbados Music Awards”, including “Best Pop Single”, “Pop / R & B Artist Of The Year”, “Songwriter Of The Year” and is for the Award “Album Of The Year” 2008. He won in the “Best Album” category.

In 2012 Jaicko released a misxtape called Gentlemen Don't Survive on his own label , which was released for free download. It contains ten titles. Independent of the mixtape, his third single was released in 2013. It's called Perfect Love . However, the track was not released via Universal Music , but via the independent label Dynasty Records . The track was not successful.

In 2014, Lawrence was recorded by the Sony Music Entertainment record label . He then worked with various artists who are under contract with Sony. In February 2014 Jaicko published the song Remember to Forget in collaboration with the German-Zimbabwean rapper Carlprit , which hit the German, Austrian and Swiss single charts after just one week. This was followed by a collaboration with the German DJ and producer Marc Korn. The song is called More than Enough , the title track of which was mixed by the German house project Bodybangers . A collaboration with the Bodybangers and the German rapper TomE followed. With them, the song Love Come Down was released in April 2014 . In autumn 2014 Jaicko decided to record another track with the rapper Carlprit. Together they wrote the song Only Get Better , which was released on November 7, 2014. Jaicko Lawrence currently lives in New York.

pseudonym

Jaicko Lawrence uses different versions of his name himself and as a guest musician. Sometimes singles are published under his full name, but sometimes only under his first name Jaicko . On his single covers at the beginning of his career, the signature Jay-Ko was shown in small print next to his name in order to call up the correct pronunciation.
