career

college

Plummer received a scholarship from Arizona State University after graduating from high school in 1993 . Until 1996 he played as a quarterback for the Arizona State Sun Devils . With Plummer as quarterback, the Pac Ten Conference , the college league in which the Sun Devils were based, was won in 1996 , which meant qualifying for the Rose Bowl . However, this was lost to Ohio State University at 20:17 . Plummer scored two touchdowns in this game , one through a pass, the second touchdown he could run himself.

Professional career

In 1997, Plummer was committed by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round to 42nd place in the 1997 NFL Draft . His career in Arizona was marked by many ups and downs. Although he was able to gain more than 10,000 yards of space through passing plays with his 47th game as starting quarterback , the Cardinals never developed into a top team and were only able to move into the play-offs in 1998 , but failed at the Minnesota Vikings at 41 : 21. Only in the 2002 season could Plummer achieve more touchdowns than interceptions . Nonetheless, he maintained his reputation as a quarterback with future prospects. In 2003 the Denver Broncos were looking for a new starting quarterback after their playmaker Brian Griese could not convince in the preseason. After the commitment with the Broncos, he was able to increase his previously moderate quarterback rating to 91.2. By 2005 he got more touchdowns than interceptions in three seasons. In all three years, the Broncos moved into the play-offs. In 2005 they failed at the later Super Bowl winner Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game with 34:17. After Plummer showed significantly weaker performance during the 2006 season, he was replaced by his head coach Mike Shanahan by Jay Cutler . After the 2006 season, Plummer was then given to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for draft rights. The Buccaneers already had three quarterbacks under contract at this point, including Jeff Garcia , but Plummer refused to take up his job despite a salary cut. Plummer announced his retirement. In the meantime, in negotiations with his employer, he has managed to get him to accept termination of the contract in return for repayment of 3.5 million US dollars .
