Jakob Moritz Grün (born March 13, 1837 in Pest , Austrian Empire , † October 1, 1916 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austrian violinist of Hungarian origin.

Life

Jakob Grün received his first music lessons in Pest and then learned to play the violin privately with Joseph Böhm in Vienna. Then he was a student of Moritz Hauptmann at the Leipzig Conservatory of Music .

From 1858–61 he was first violinist in the court orchestra in Weimar , then until 1865 in the court orchestra in Hanover . In the following years he went on concert tours as a soloist through Germany, Holland and England.

On October 1, 1868 he became concertmaster of the Imperial and Royal Vienna Court Opera Orchestra ( Vienna Philharmonic ) and remained a member of the orchestra until 1897. From 1877 to 1908 he was also a teacher at the Vienna Conservatory and trained an entire generation in the tradition of the Vienna violin school. His students include a. Adolf Bak, Carl Flesch , Rosa Hochmann , Franz Kneisel , Fritz Kreisler , Max Lewinger , Franz Mairecker , Hans Wessely and Max Weißgärber .

Grün's apartment was at Heugasse 18 (today Prinz-Eugen-Straße) in Wieden .

His grave is in the Vienna Central Cemetery, 1st Gate .
