Jakob Mathéus (born December 16, 1862 in Klingenmünster , † August 27, 1946 in Heidelberg ) was a Bavarian administrative lawyer and until 1928 the district president of the Bavarian Rhine District .

Life

Mathéus studied law in Heidelberg , Munich and Erlangen until 1886 . In 1883 he became a member of the Corps Suevia Heidelberg . From 1891 he was a district assessor in Pirmasens , and from 1899 he worked for the government of the Rhine district in Speyer . In 1908 he was promoted to government councilor in 1917 to senior government councilor. Since 1920 he was with the title and rank of government director in the government of the Palatinate deputy of the district president Friedrich von Chlingensperg auf Berg . The Rhine Palatinate had been under French occupation since the end of the war, In 1923/24 France tried to separate this area from the Free State of Bavaria and the German Reich. Mathéus was expelled from the French occupation forces on January 24, 1923 together with von Chlingensperg. Since July 16, 1923, he was in charge of the administration of the government president of the Palatinate as government vice-president, his official seat was Heidelberg. Since February 1, 1924, he was officially President of the Palatinate Government, and on September 12, 1924 he was able to return to Speyer.
