The Jakobselva ( Northern Sami : Ánnejohka , Finnish Annijoki ) is a river in the municipalities Vadsø and Nesseby in the Fylke Troms og Finnmark in northern Norway . The river is also referred to as Vestre Jakobselva (Vestre = German "Western" ) to distinguish the river of the same name on the Norwegian- Russian border. The river has its origin in the center of the Varanger peninsula . It flows south and flows into the Varangerfjord at Vestre Jakobselv - 17 km west of Vadsø . The river runs in parts in the Varangerhalvøya National Park .
With the Verneplan I for vassdrag program , the river has been under special protection since 1973.
fauna
The river is a popular river for salmon fishing . Salmon can migrate 20–30 km upstream.
