Way of St. James in the Rhön

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Way of St. James in the Rhön is a connecting route between the Ecumenical and Lower Franconian Way of St. James. It runs from Vacha , the end point of the ecumenical pilgrimage route , through the Rhön region via Fulda to Bad Kissingen , where the route turns into the Camino de Santiago in Lower Franconia .

history

In the past, trade routes or pilgrimage routes were mostly used. Exactly which one can no longer be completely clarified due to the differences. However, it can be assumed that the St. James pilgrims did not go to extra lengths and mostly followed rivers for orientation.

The monk Hermann Künig von Vach comes from Vacha , who served in the Servite monastery there , which was razed during the Peasants' War, and who wrote the first pilgrim guide to Santiago de Compostela in the Middle Ages .

The path today was marked and approved by the Rhön Club .
