James Earl Conner (* 5. May 1995 in Erie , Pennsylvania ) is an American American football poker players in the position of running backs . He played college football for the University of Pittsburgh and has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL) since 2017 .

Early years

Conner attended McDowell High School in Erie, where he first played as a defensive lineman before moving to the position of running back. In his final season, he ran 1,688 yards in 155 runs and scored 21 touchdowns .

college

From 2013 to 2016, Conner played college football . He attended the University of Pittsburgh , where he played for the Pittsburgh Panthers in the NCAA Division I FBS.

Overall, he came in the four years on 3,733 yards with 668 runs and ran 52 touchdowns .

In late 2015, Conner announced that he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma . After successful chemotherapy, he was cured in May 2016 and continued his career.

NFL

Conner was selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft in 105th place as the eighth running back by the Pittsburgh Steelers , where he signed a four-year contract.

In his first season in the NFL, he served as a backup for Le'Veon Bell until Conner was sidelined from week 15 after a knee injury.

Due to contractual disputes between the Steelers and Bell, Conner started the 2018 season as the new starting running back . In the 21:21 tie at the Cleveland Browns , he scored his first touchdown in the NFL. On December 18, 2018, Conner was nominated for the first time for the Pro Bowl , where he was to appear as a starter for the AFC team . In the 2019 season, Conner missed several games due to many injuries or had to leave the field early and could therefore not build on his performance from the previous season.
