Jan-Ulrich Weiss

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jan-Ulrich Weiß (born March 17, 1975 in Templin ) is a German politician of the Alternative for Germany (AfD). White gained national notoriety through anti-Semitic statements. The AfD parliamentary group in the Brandenburg state parliament temporarily gave the impression that he should not belong to it because of his statements. He gained further prominence through a final conviction for cigarette smuggling to a suspended sentence of one year and ten months, which was reported nationwide .

Life and work

After his military service with the German Armed Forces in Amberg, Weiß worked as warehouse manager express in Dietzenbach for LTTS, was an independent driver in long-distance transport, then a houseman, has been offering forestry and agricultural services since 2014 and is active in firewood production and in the game trade. Weiß is married and has seven children.

politics

Weiß has been a member of the AfD since April 11, 2013. Until his resignation in February 2019, he was the district chairman of the AfD in the Uckermark district association . In the state elections in Brandenburg in 2014, Weiß stood for the AfD in constituency 10 Uckermark III / Oberhavel IV , and was originally supposed to receive a member of parliament as a successor on the state list of the AfD Brandenburg because Stefan Hein announced his mandate before the constitution of the state parliament not wanting to accept personal reasons after he previously launched internals to the press. After Weiß published a post that Alexander Gauland had classified as anti-Semitic on his Facebook page, he was excluded from the AfD parliamentary group that was to be formed. Another point of criticism was that Weiß rejected the NSU trial . As a result, Hein revised his decision and announced that he would accept his mandate as a non-attached member of parliament in order to prevent white from advancing to the state parliament. The AfD state executive decided to initiate party exclusion proceedings against white. This failed in the party's federal arbitration court. White rejected the anti-Semitism charge. After Gauland was elected to the Bundestag in 2017 and gave up his state parliament mandate, Weiß moved up to the Brandenburg state parliament on October 26, 2017, where he belongs to the AfD faction.

White was considered to be little active in the state parliament and, for example, made no contribution to the Brandenburg state parliament from February 2018 to February 2019. In the same period he only appeared with a small question, which was heavily criticized by parliamentary colleagues such as Rainer Genilke and Jutta Lieske .

After the state elections in Brandenburg in 2019 , Weiss did not move back as a member of the Brandenburg state parliament.

Tax evasion charges

In the summer of 2017, the Neuruppin public prosecutor brought charges of tax evasion against Weiß. He is accused of having commissioned an illegal transport of untaxed cigarettes from the Netherlands via Belgium to Great Britain in 2013 , which is said to have resulted in tax losses of around one million euros. The main hearing began on February 12, 2018 at the Neuruppin Regional Court . He denied that he was "involved in cigarette smuggling on a large scale".

The district court sentenced him on February 16, 2018 for tax evasion to a prison term of one year and ten months on probation and forbade him to exercise public office for three years. With regard to the custodial sentence, the Federal Court of Justice rejected the appeal by Weiß, with regard to the ban on exercising public office and a confiscation of the proceeds of the crime amounting to 516,478.15 euros, the BGH overturned the conviction and referred the proceedings back to the regional court for renewed hearing.

Since a decision by the Federal Court of Justice was pending, Weiss was still a member of the Brandenburg state parliament and the AfD parliamentary group until the end of the 2019 legislative period.
