Jan Gunnar Hedengård (born May 27, 1963 in Malmö , Sweden ) is a former Swedish-German volleyball player .

Career

Jan Hedengård started playing volleyball in Dalby at home . Later he went to Stockholm Randverein Sollentuna VK, with which he was three times Swedish champion. In 1987, the player moved to the Italian league for Pallavolo Turin and a year later for league rivals Alpitur Cuneo . In 1992 Jan Hedengård came to the German Bundesliga and played for Dürener TV and Moerser SC . In 1994 he went to Halkbank Ankara and was twice Turkish champion here. In 1996 he returned to the Bundesliga for VfB Friedrichshafen , with whom he won the double in the German championship and the DVV cup in 1998. In his Bundesliga time he was constantly represented in the rankings of German volleyball . Then he played again in Turkey for Izmir Söke Spor.

Jan Hedengård played 386 times for the Swedish national team and was their captain for ten years. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he finished seventh. He also took part in five European championships ( 1985 , 1987 , 1989 , 1991 and 1993 ) and two world championships ( 1990 and 1994 ).

Jan Hedengård is married to a German and has had German citizenship since 1995.
