Jan Martin Gerardus Notermans (born July 29, 1932 in Sittard , † June 8, 2017 in Helmond ) was a Dutch football player and coach .

Career

player

The midfielder Jan Notermans played from 1955 for Fortuna 54 Geleen in the Ehrendivision , the top division in the Netherlands. With Geleen he was the Dutch runner-up behind Ajax Amsterdam in 1957 and won the Dutch Cup after a 4-2 final win over Feyenoord Rotterdam . After nine years in Geleen, Notermans moved to local rivals Sittardia Sittard in the summer of 1964 , with whom he was relegated from the honor division at the end of the 1964/65 season. At the same time, Notermans ended his playing career.

Between 1956 and 1960 Jan Notermans played 25 times for the Dutch national team and scored two goals. He made his debut on March 14, 1956 in the 2-1 defeat of the Dutch in Düsseldorf against Germany . He made four of his international appearances while qualifying for the 1958 World Cup . Notermans had his last assignment on June 29, 1960 in the goalless draw of the Dutch in the Netherlands Antilles .

Trainer

After his playing career, Notermans became a coach and initially looked after the amateur clubs SVN Sittard and Rios . In 1971 he took over the German regional league club SV Arminia Hannover before taking over the Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld in February 1972 . Notermans became the first Dutch coach in Bundesliga history. The Bielefeld had to relegate at the end of the season because of their involvement in the Bundesliga scandal . After the start of the 1972/73 season failed, Notermans had to leave again in October 1972. He returned to his home country and in 1973 took over the Go Ahead Eagles Deventer , where he worked for two years. In the 1976/77 season Notermans coached the second division club FC Groningen , before he worked briefly at AZ Alkmaar . In the summer of 1979 Notermans became the coach of Helmond Sport , which he brought from 15th place in the second division to promotion to the Honorary Vision in 1982. A year later he left Helmond and took over Willem II Tilburg . In 1985 he ended his coaching career.
