Jane Cowie

Barbara Jane Cowie (* 1962 ) is an Australian glass artist .

Life

After completing her degree in Fine Arts at the College of the Arts in Sydney , Cowie went on extensive study trips to glassworks in Australia, Europe, the United States, Singapore, India, China and Japan in the 1980s to develop her craft skills participated in exhibitions in private and public galleries. Cowie was a board member of the JamFactory Craft Center from 1995 to 2001 , of the Craftsouth, Center for Contemporary Craft and Design from 1993 to 2001 , and of the Australian Association of Glass Artists (Ausglass) from 1993 to 2002 , of which she was president for two years.

Since 1990 she has curated numerous exhibitions and taught glassmaking, including at Edith Cowan University in Perth and the University of South Australia in Adelaide . In 2003 she moved to Singapore , where she taught glass making at Lasalle College of the Arts . In Singapore, she worked as a glass artist for the Architectural Glass and Design Company , with whom she worked for four years and implemented several large-format architectural art glass installations. For her work she uses different materials such as metal, fabric, ceramics and art glass. In 2005 she received her dissertation “A Glassmakers Perspective. History and Practice of Studio Glassmaking in South Australia “the title Master of Visual Arts .

In 2006 Cowie founded her own company Art Glass Solutions in Singapore , for which she mainly works as creative director . As a consultant, designer and production manager, Cowie is involved in larger teams of glassmakers, customers, designers and architects, creating works of art, lighting elements and architectural installations for private homes, offices, hotel lobbies and public spaces in Singapore, the Philippines, Macau, Malaysia and China; this includes:
