Janez Polda (born April 25, 1924 in Mojstrana ; † March 20, 1964 there ) was a Yugoslav ski jumper .

Career

Polda made his international debut starting at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . In the singles on the normal hill he landed on rank 41 after falling. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lake Placid in 1950 , Polda jumped to 25th place. Two years later at the Olympic Winter Games in Oslo in 1952 , he jumped to 16th place, tied with Swiss Andreas Däscher .

In the first Four Hills Tournament in 1953 he only competed in the jumping competitions in Austria . In Innsbruck on the Bergiselschanze he landed on a very good eighth place. On the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen , he jumped to 10th place. In the overall standings, he finished in 16th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1954 in Falun , he jumped 75 and 75.5 meters and achieved a good 16th place.

At the Four Hills Tournament 1955/56 Polda jumped again in Innsbruck. Since he achieved the best individual result of his touring career with fifth place, he finished 33rd overall with 210 points. With the start at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 , he ended his active ski jumping career. He jumped from the normal hill to 24th place.

Between 1947 and 1956, Polda was a total of seven Yugoslav champions.

After his sudden death in 1964, a memorial competition was held in Planica from 1965 to 1980 in honor of Polda.
