Janne Raineri Kantanen (born July 14, 1983 in Virtasalmi , now Pieksämäki ) is a Finnish biathlete .

Janne Kantanen lives in Virtasalmi and trains in Joensuu . The border guard started biathlon in 1994. He has been a member of the Finnish national team since 2003. He is trained by Tomi Kuutti and starts for Virtasalmen Urheilijat , previously for Pieksamaen Veikot 98 . He competed in his first international race as part of the junior races of the 2001 European Biathlon Championships in Haute-Maurienne , where he was 33rd in the sprint, 27th in the pursuit and seventh in the relay. Shortly thereafter, in Khanty-Mansiysk, the first participation in a Junior World Championship followed. In Russia, the Finn was 35th in the individual and again seventh in the season. A year later he took in Ridnaun again at the Junior World Championships in part, in which he finished 16th of the Single Page 28 of the sprint and 44th of persecution. This was followed by the European Biathlon Championships in 2002 in Kontiolahti , where he started in the junior races and was 35th in the individual and fifth in the Finnish relay. The 2003 Junior World Championships in Kościelisko became the third event of its kind for cantans. In Poland he was 43rd in the sprint, 50th in the pursuit and ninth in the relay. A year later, the Finn took part in his last Junior World Championship in Haute Maurienne. He was 24th of the individual, 37th of the sprint, 42nd of the pursuit and sixth in the relay competition.

In 2004 Kantanen started in Pokljuka for the first time in the biathlon world cup and was 92nd in a sprint race. In Östersund he took part in the military ski world championship in 2004 and was 48th in the sprint race. In the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons , the Finn started more often in the World Cup, but without ever being able to win points. In Kontiolahti he reached 49th place in a pursuit race in 2006, his best result so far in the World Cup in an individual race. It was the only time that he could qualify for a pursuer. With the relay he achieved his best relay result in 2005 in Oberhof at the side of Jouni Kinnunen , Timo Antila and Jarkko Kauppinen with ninth place. 2006 he took first at the Biathlon European Championships Men part and was in Langsdorf 18 of the function SINGLE, 46 of the sprint, 38. pursuit and as first runner together with Matti Hakala , Ville Laitinen and Antti Kajan 15 in the relay. A year later Kantanen in Bansko was 45th of the individual, 47th of the sprint and with Tapio Pukki , Ville Toivonen and Marko Juhani Mänttäri as the final runner, eleventh in the relay race. Since 2008 he has mostly started in the IBU Cup , but rarely achieved the region of his best performance, an eighth place in an individual, achieved in 2009 in Ridnaun . The Finn continues to play sporadically in the World Cup. In Presque Isle he was able to set his World Cup best performance with Mari Laukkanen , Kaisa Mäkäräinen and Jarkko Kauppinen in mixed with ninth place.
