Jawhar "Joe" Mnari ( Arabic جوهر مناري; * November 8, 1976 in Monastir ; also written Jaouhar Mnari ) is a former Tunisian soccer player .

Career

The career of the 1.84 meter tall and 82 kilogram defensive midfielder began with his hometown club Union Sportif Monastir and led him in 2000 to the Tunisian top club Espérance Tunis , where he scored 27 goals in 270 first division games and won three championships with the Mnari and at the CAF Champions League participated.

In the summer of 2005 he moved to the Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg, which was trained by Wolfgang Wolf . After initial difficulties getting used to it, Mnari played regularly in the starting line-up under coach Hans Meyer in the second half of the season. The club made it to eighth place after a strong second half. After Mnari proved to be an important part of the team in the following season , the club extended his contract until the summer of 2010. Now he usually formed a double six with Tomáš Galásek . Sixth place in the table meant the best season in almost twenty years, and Nuremberg also won the DFB Cup , although Mnari could not play in the final due to injury.

In the 2007/08 season , the Tunisian got competition from Peer Kluge and lost his regular place, but also played in the UEFA Cup for the first time , where he made four appearances. In the league, however, the club rose. Before the 2008/09 season Galásek left the club and the new coach Michael Oenning put on a diamond. Although Kluge then mostly played on the wing, Mnari was rarely in the starting line-up at the start of the season, as he had competition from Peter Perchtold in the first half of the season and from Stefan Reinartz in the second half . Shortly before the end of the season, however, Reinartz moved into the defense for the injured Dominic Maroh , so Oenning relied on the experienced Mnari again in defensive midfield, who performed well again. Nuremberg finally reached third place and thus the relegation. There Mnari played through in both games and rose with Nürnberg.

The following Bundesliga season 2009/10 , however, went badly for him. Although he was initially in the DFB Cup and then on the first matchday still in the starting line-up, he was always substituted. After that, he was only used on the second and eighth day of play, where he played through, most recently on October 3, 2009 in Leverkusen. After his contract was not extended at the end of the season, the second division FSV Frankfurt announced the commitment of Mnaris for the 2010/11 season . During the preparation there were many indications that Mnari would occupy the regular place in the "six" position, but after an injury Mnari shortly before the start of the season, Samil Cinaz took this place. Mnari came on only eight second division appearances during the season and ended his guest appearance at the Frankfurt district club after one season.

National team

Jawhar Mnari was the 2004 African champion with the Tunisian national soccer team . He was also on the squad for the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup , where he played all three Tunisian games and even scored one goal. Mnari scored three goals in 72 international matches.
