Peter André Perchtold (born September 2, 1984 in Nuremberg ) is a German former football player and current coach . He is under contract as an assistant coach at VfB Stuttgart .

Career

As a player

Perchtold, son of an Austrian and a German, began his career in 1991 at 1. SC Feucht . In the summer of 2005, the midfielder moved to VfB Stuttgart and initially played in the second team. In October 2007 he was promoted to the squad of the first team by coach Armin Veh after he had already contested the preparation with them. Perchtold made his Bundesliga debut on October 20, 2007 at the away game between VfB Stuttgart and Hamburger SV .

For the 2008/09 season Perchtold moved to 1. FC Nürnberg and quickly became a regular player there before an injury threw him back. He made 13 appearances in the first half of the season, playing eleven times over the full time and scoring his first goal against Rot Weiss Ahlen on matchday seven . After that he came in the second half of the season only on one mission over the full time. After promotion he was no longer considered in the first half of the 2009/10 season . After coach Michael Oenning had been replaced by Dieter Hecking during the winter break , the latter only let Perchtold train with the amateurs. After a knee injury, he was no longer used there in the second half of the season.

In January 2011 he dissolved his contract with 1. FC Nürnberg and signed a long-term contract in the Australian A-League with Gold Coast United , but initially played with a temporary guest player license. After club owner Clive Palmer had decided in the 2011 season break to only award one-year contracts and Perchtold had refused to agree to a contract change, his contract was canceled by the club. Perchtold took action against the Australian Association and in November 2011 was awarded compensation of 340,000 Australian dollars in a first judgment for breach of contract . In the judgment, the behavior of Gold Coast United was criticized as "dishonorable" and "arbitrary" and a "complete disregard of the principles underpinning contract law" was stated. Palmer declined to pay the sum and stated that there was no way to service the contract because Perchtold did not have a valid visa. With the liquidation of Gold Coast United in 2012, which at the time had liabilities of AU $ 3.8 million, Perchtold was also left with outstanding debts.

For the 2011/12 season Perchtold returned to Germany and signed a contract with the second team of 1. FSV Mainz 05 , which was playing in the Regionalliga West at that time. At the end of the 2012/13 season, he ended his active career.

As a trainer

After his career as a player, Perchtold became assistant coach under head coach Martin Schmidt in the second team of Mainz 05 for the 2013/14 season and rose with the team to the third division at the end of the season. From February 2015 he was assistant coach of the first team after Schmidt was installed as their head coach. In the 2015/16 season, the team qualified for the 2016/17 Europa League .

For the 2017/18 season , Perchtold moved to FC Schalke 04 and became Domenico Tedesco's assistant coach . After the runner-up and qualification for the 2018/19 Champions League , both were released in the following season on March 14, 2019.

The VfB Stuttgart committed Perchtold for season 2020/21 in July 2020 as an assistant coach under Pellegrino Matarazzo .
