Jason Eduard Cain (born March 31, 1985 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player who, after studying in his home country, played professionally for six years in the German national basketball league from 2007 . After four seasons for the Phantoms Braunschweig, Cain was active for one season each for the Eisbären Bremerhaven and BBC Bayreuth before playing for Petro Atlético in Angola after a year in the second Spanish league, LEB Oro . With the club from the Angolan capital, Cain won the national championship in 2015.

Career

Cain played during his studies at the University of Virginia for the university team Cavaliers in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the NCAA Division I. In his senior year 2007, the Cavaliers were able to qualify for the first time in six years for the national finals , where they were in the second round eliminated. Cain, who during his student days also played with Elton Brown , who later also played in the BBL , had rather average statistics in college, but continued his career as a professional after finishing his studies.

In 2007 he received a contract with the New York Phantoms in Germany, to which he remained loyal for the following four years. In the first two years, however, the Phantoms failed to qualify for the play-offs for the German championship . After a coaching change, Sebastian Machowski took over the position of coach at Braunschweig and was able to lead them twice into the play-offs for the championship. Under coach Machowski, Cain's time increased and he was able to significantly improve his free-throw rate.In addition, in his last and fourth seasons for the Braunschweiger, he also appeared as a long-distance shooter with a good three-point throw rate and not only scored his points close to the basket.

After the end of the 2011 season, he accepted an offer from Eisbären Bremerhaven for the coming season and moved to the North Sea coast. He moved from the Eisbären from Bremerhaven after one season within the league and signed a contract for two years until 2014 with BBC Bayreuth . However, the contract was terminated by the club after the 2012/13 season . Cain then moved to Spain and signed a contract in the LEB Oro with the second division Leyma Basquet from A Coruña for the 2013/2014 season . The previous year's climber achieved his best placement in his history in fifth place, but was eliminated again in the first round of the play-offs for promotion to the top division.

For the following season, Cain moved to Angola in 2014, which is considered the leading African nation in basketball, primarily due to their men's national team . With the club Petro Atlético from the capital Luanda , Cain was able to defeat defending champion CRD Libolo over seven games in the 2015 final series and, after a four-year break, win the club's twelfth championship. In the following season, Cain was the best rebounder in the league, but defending champion Petro Atlético lost in the semi-final series for the 2016 championship against the eventual title winner Primeiro de Agosto in the all-important fifth game at home after two extra times.
