Jaume Fort Mauri Lorenzo (born July 25, 1966 in Cardedeu , Spain ) is a former Spanish handball goalkeeper . He is married and has one child.

Athletic career

society

Jaume Fort started playing handball in his hometown at BM Cardedeu when he was six. When he was 15 he joined the youth department of BM Granollers . In 1986 the 1.82 m tall goalkeeper made his debut in the ASOBAL league and played for Granollers for four years. In 1990 he joined the BM Alzira Avidesa club, which had only been founded a year earlier , with which he won the Copa del Rey de Balonmano in 1992 and the EHF Cup in 1993/94 . He then moved to the reigning EHF Champions League winner CB Cantabria Santander . In its five seasons, Fort again won the King's Cup, twice the Copa ASOBAL , the Supercopa Asobal and the European Cup Winners' Cup . In 1999 he joined the German Bundesliga club TBV Lemgo , with whom he won the 1999 Supercup. After two years he moved to the newly promoted Frisch Auf Göppingen , with whom he ended his career in 2004.

In March 2005 he was reactivated by BM Ciudad Real for the goalkeeper Arpad Šterbik, who had failed due to a torn cruciate ligament, until the end of the season. With Ciudad Real, he lost to FC Barcelona in the finals of the EHF Champions League 2004/05 with one goal.

On August 11, 2007 Jaume Fort was awarded together with Dejan Perić as the best goalkeeper in the history of the Schlecker Cup .

National team

With the Spanish national team , the 177-time goalkeeper took part in the Olympic Games in 1988 , 1992 and 1996 and won the bronze medal on his third participation. In the same year he became vice European champion , in 1998 he repeated this success. At the European Championship in 2000 he won bronze again.

Professional career

Jaume Fort has a degree in English philology and speaks fluent French and German in addition to Spanish and English. After he was already active for the "Association of Spanish Handball Players" (ABM), he was also elected President of the "Association of European Handball Players" (EHPU). In February 2007 he was elected to the "Athletes Commission" of the IHF . Since June 2007 he was on the City Council of Cardedeu u. a. responsible for sports. In February 2012, he stepped down to join the Granollers Organizing Committee for the 2013 Men's Handball World Championship .
