Jean-Baptiste Édouard Bornet (born September 2, 1828 in Guérigny , † December 18, 1911 in Paris ) was a French botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Bornet ".

Live and act

Bornet had been a member of the French Academy of Sciences since 1886 . His works include Notes algologiques (1847–1880) and Études phycologiques (1878). Among other things, he made important contributions to the understanding of lichens and red algae . In 1882 he was President of the Botanical Society of France . In 1887 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina , in 1888 a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences , 1891 a member of the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala , and 1899 a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academyand in 1902 the Russian Academy of Sciences . In 1891 he was awarded the Linné Medal of the Linnean Society of London . In 1893 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , in 1901 to the National Academy of Sciences . In 1910 he was accepted as a "Foreign Member" in the Royal Society and in 1911 as a member of the American Philosophical Society .
