Jean-François de La Guiche , seigneur de Saint-Géran , comte de La Palice , (* before 1569 at Château de Saint-Geran ; † December 2, 1632 at Château la Palice ) was a soldier in France in the 16th and 17th centuries. Century.

He was the son of Claude de La Guiche † 1592, seigneur de Saint-Géran and Suzanne d'Isserpent, (or "des Serpents") († after April 26, 1628), dame de Chitain.

Jean-François de La Guiche earned his first spurs in 1588 under the command of Jean VI d'Aumont ( Maréchal de France ) and drew attention to himself in various actions under Henri IV . He took part in the siege of Orléans in February 1589 and in the battle of Ivry in 1590 .

He was wounded at the siege of Paris in 1588 and the siege of Rouen in 1591. He was then promoted to the Mestre de camp and was given command of the king's chevaux-légers .

After the siege of Amiens, in which he was wounded and four horses under him were shot, he was promoted to the Maréchal de camp .

From 1605 to 1610 he was a lieutenant in the la Garde du Dauphin (part of the Gendarmes de la Garde), then from July 1611 Sous-lieutenant in the Garde du corps du roi . On March 13, 1615 he became "Capitaine-lieutenant" of the Gendarmes de la garde , this rank he held until the end of his life. (The ranks in the Guard differed considerably from those in the normal army. On November 24th he made his will and set off 100,000 livres for pensions and retirement funds. He also bequeathed furniture and other items amounting to 50,000 écus (approx. 3,500,000 livres) to his widow, his two daughters Marie-Gabrielle and Marie , his son Claude Maximilien Graf von Palice and the Marquise von Bouillé

He died on December 2, 1632 at the age of 63 at the Château de La Palice in Bourbonnais after 45 years of health problems. His grave is in the parish church of Saint-Gérand-de-Vaux Département Allier, in the reconstruction of which he made a massive financial contribution.
