Sainte-Marie-du-Mont is a commune in the Manche department in the region of Normandy . It is located on the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy, on the stretch of coast that was called “La Madeleine” before the Second World War and where American troops landed for an invasion on the morning of June 6, 1944 . Since then, this stretch of beach has been called " Utah Beach ".

The town of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont with its 720 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is a center of cattle breeding and is close to a reserve for migratory birds. The church tower in the center of the community, whose origins go back to the 11th century, dominates the village.
