geography

The municipality is located on the Cotentin peninsula , around 100 kilometers northwest of Caen , and borders the English Channel to the west . Neighboring municipalities are Baubigny and Sénoville in the north, Sortosville-en-Beaumont in the east, La Haye-d'Ectot in the southeast and Barneville-Carteret in the south.

The community consists of two main hamlets, Les Moitiers d'Allonne itself and Hatainville. A larger dune massif (Dunes d'Hatainville) extends near Hatainville to an area of about 400 hectares along the coast (from Baubigny to Cape de Carteret ) and also inland. It is a nature reserve. The dunes reach a maximum height of 80 meters. The area is administered by the municipality and the Conservatoire du littoral . The previously movable shifting dunes were fixed by wooden fences and planting beach grass.
