Bretteville is a commune in the Manche in the region of Normandy .
Toponymy
Bretteville is derived from Brite (from Great Britain ) and the French ending -ville .
In 1995 the local council wanted to rename the municipality Bretteville-en-Saire ( Bretteville-en-Saire is already written on the street signs ). The State Council did not accept the request for a renaming .

Bretteville is on the north coast of the Cotentin , in the Val de Saire countryside .
The highest point reaches 156 m at Bellevue . The coast stretches for about 2.5 km.

- Saint Germain church from the 15th century.
- The gallery tomb Allée couverte de la Forge was added to the list of historical monuments in 1862.
The gallery grave consists of conglomerate from the Triassic , which comes from the neighboring Maupertus-sur-Mer . Many visitors have a clear conscience that the conglomerate is today's concrete.
