Siouville-Hague is a French commune with 1,033 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Canton of Les Pieux .
Toponymy
Siouville is derived from the French ending -ville and from the Germanic name Saewulf or from the Anglo-Saxon name Sigeneald .
geography
Siouville-Hague is located on the Cotentin Peninsula . The Petit Douet stream flows through the municipality . Neighboring communities are Héauville , Tréauville and Helleville . The seaside resort has a long beach of fine sand. Siouville is well known for surfing and sand yachting. There is also a rehabilitation center in Siouville that uses the seawater - not far from the Flamanville nuclear power plant and the La Hague reprocessing plant .
The Flamanville granite is surrounded by a contact aureole. On the border between Tréauville and Siouville, in a quarry in Mont Saint-Gilles , cornéennes were obtained from the contact aureole cf.
history
At the beginning of the 19th century, the population converted to Protestantism . However, it was not a question of a deep spiritual inclination towards Protestantism, but of anger against the priest who preferred the Lord of Flamanville instead of his believers when collecting tang . An evangelical temple built in 1842 testifies to this conversion. Today it is a community hall.
economy
The Alderney Strait, located between France and the Bailiwick of Guernsey , has a huge energy potential and is shared by both countries. Therefore, as part of the development of renewable energies, an HVDC connection is planned between England and the Cotentin , which could land in Siouville.

- Maurice Boitel (1919–2007) painted in Siouville in the early 1950s
- For a long time the former Hague Dick Hotel had welcomed personalities who came here to relax. Among them are Jeanne Moreau (in May 1971), Georges Bidault , Danielle Darrieux , André Dassary , Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler , etc.
- The sculptor Marcel Jacques lived in Siouville for a long time, in the hamlet of Viesville.
