Portbail (also Port-Bail ) is a village and a commune déléguée in the French commune of Port-Bail-sur-Mer with 1,516 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the Normandy region .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Saint-Lô-d'Ourville , Portbail and Denneville were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Port-Bail-sur-Mer and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality. The administrative headquarters are located in Portbail. It belonged to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Canton of Les Pieux .

The village is located on the edge of the Regional Nature Park Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin ( French Parc naturel régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin ), which characterizes the place at the mouth of the Ollonde on the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula .

Attractions
The well-fortified Romanesque church of Notre-Dame from the 11th century still has its original, simple capitals . As a monument historique , it is under monument protection, as is the early Christian baptistery behind the town hall . The octagonal baptismal font dates from the 5th century.
The place is the end of the ten kilometer long tourist train, Train Touristique du Cotentin .
Partner communities
Portbail's partner communities are Grouville on Jersey and, since 1985, Wienhausen in Lower Saxony .
