Jean-Noël Rey
Jean-Noël Rey (born December 23, 1949 in Sierre , Switzerland ; † January 16, 2016 in Ouagadougou , Burkina Faso ; resident in Chermignon , Mollens and Montana ) was a Swiss civil servant , manager and politician ( SP ).
Life
Rey was in 1978 at the University of Geneva with a dissertation on Swiss trade union movement to Dr. sc. éc. et soc. PhD .
After he had been a personal employee of the then Federal Councilor Otto Stich , Rey was appointed General Director of the Post Department PTT in 1990. He was the last General Director of the Swiss Post to be employed as a civil servant . He was released in 1998 after allegations of nepotism , among other things . However, there was no conviction. In 2001 Rey became General Director of the Swiss branch of the parcel distributor DPD . In 2004 he resigned from this position. In 2013 he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Switzerland-France Chamber of Commerce . He also sat on several boards of directors.
Jean-Noël Rey was killed in January 2016, along with Georgie Lamon and another 27 people, in an Islamist terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, West Africa , at the age of 66. The two Swiss were there to inaugurate the canteen of a school.
Rey was a second wife and father of two children.
Political offices
Rey belonged to the Swiss Social Democratic Party. During the 47th legislative period (2003–2007) he was a member of the National Council . In 2007 the man from Lower Valais ran on the list of the SP Upper Valais, but failed to be re-elected.
