biography

Roy took part in FIS races for the first time in December 1994 , appearances in the Nor-Am Cup followed from March 1996. Without having previously contested a World Cup race, he took part in the 1999 World Championship and came in 30th in the giant slalom. At the Junior World Championship in the same year he was fifth in this discipline. The first World Cup race finally followed on October 31, 1999 in Tignes . At the start of the 2000/01 season, he took the first World Cup points as the 27th of the giant slalom in Sölden . In the same season he finished second in the overall standings of the Nor-Am Cup and also won the giant slalom standings.

In December 2001, Roy made it into the top ten of a World Cup race for the first time in the Kranjska Gora slalom . At the 2001 World Championships and the 2002 Olympic Games , he was eighth in the combination . With a broken thumb and wrist, he missed almost the entire 2002/03 season. On December 19, 2004, Roy achieved his best ever World Cup result when he finished fifth in the giant slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia . In the giant slalom of the 2005 World Championships in Bormio , he was in third place after the first run, but fell in the second run and sustained serious knee injuries.

After his second comeback at the end of 2005, Roy was unable to continue his previous achievements for a long time. So he could not qualify for a second round in the 2006/07 World Cup season. The following season was similar, but on January 5th, 2008 he achieved a very good result with ninth place in the giant slalom in Adelboden . In the 2008/09 season he only took part in giant slaloms in the World Cup, regularly scored points and achieved seventh place in Kranjska Gora as the best result . The 2009/10 season began Roy with a ninth place in the giant slalom in Sölden . On December 13, 2009, he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee in the giant slalom of Val-d'Isère , after which the 2009/10 season was over for him. Due to a recent injury, Roy, who now only concentrated on the giant slalom, had to end the 2010/11 season early in January. In the winter of 2011/12 , Roy's best World Cup result was 13th in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek .
