Jean-Pierre Sasson

Jean-Pierre Sasson (* 1918 ; † 1986 ) was a French jazz guitarist .

Live and act

Sasson began his musical career in 1939 with André Ekyan , Pierre Fouad and Emmanuel Soudieux . During World War II he enlisted in the British Air Force. In 1940 recordings were made with Max Geldray in London . After the end of the war, he returned and worked in the Paris jazz scene a. a. with Chico Cristobal and His Boogie-Woogie Boys, Harry Cooper , Louie Williams , Jack Diéval , Sidney Bechet (" Honeysuckle Rose ", 1949), in the Hubert Rostaing Sextets and with musicians from the Hot Club de France such as Eddie Bernard and André Persiany . In 1947 he took part in a jam session of American musicians living in Peris such as George Kennedy , Frank "Big Boy" Goudie and Charlie Lewis .

In the 1950s, Sasson also worked with Don Byas , Bill Coleman , the Dave Pochonet All Stars, Buck Clayton and His French Stars, Alix Combelle , Jonah Jones , Dick Rasurell et ses Berlurons, Marcel Bianchi , Mac-Kac & His French Rock & Roll, Christian Garros , Michel de Villers , Géo Daly , Sammy Price , Gérard Badini and Benny Waters .

Sasson also led his own formations, such as The Muskrats and Jean-Pierre Sasson et son Ensemble (with Guy Lafitte (alias Guy Denis ), Martial Solal (alias Martial Royal ), Guy Pedersen , Mac Kac), with which he also released several records. André Persiany (piano), Jean-Marie Ingrand (bass) and Bernard Planchenault (drums) played in his quartet from 1953 . In 1956 he recorded for Columbia under his own name with Lucky Thompson ("You Are My Dream") and Sacha Distel ("Two Guitar Blues"), in 1957 for Versailles the vocal number "Une petite salade avec de la mayonnaise". The cover version of the US hit “Church Bells May Ring” by the Willows, recorded by Jack Diéval for Polydor in 1956 , to which Jean-Pierre Sasson and Maria Velasco contributed the vocals, was oriented towards rock'n'roll . In 1957 he wrote the song "Tu m'as laisser tombé", which he recorded with Michel de Villers, Dick Rasurell and Jerry Mengo . In 1958, Sasson & The Muskrats recorded the album Dixie Downbeat , accompanied by the Quincy Jones Big Band .

In the 70s and 80s Sasson played with Milt Buckner , Marcel Zanini , Marc Fosset and Raphaël Faÿs / Pierre Blanchard ( Gypsy Touch , 1987). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 63 recording sessions between 1940 and 1987.
