Jeffrey Bruce Symonds (born October 1, 1985 in Penticton ) is a Canadian triathlete . He was third in the world championship in the middle distance (2011) and Ironman winner (2015).

Career

Jeff Symonds grew up in the city of Penticton , where Ironman Canada has been held since 1983 . He competed in his first triathlon at the age of 20. The Canadian attended the University of British Columbia , where he studied economics with a focus on marketing. During his studies he was active as a runner in the university team.

In September 2011, Symonds was third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships , bringing him the first medal at world championships in Canada.

In 2013 he contested his first long distance competition at Ironman Los Cabos , which he finished in fourth place after 8:37:09 hours. He achieved his first victory over this distance in the same year at the Challenge Penticton and in 2014 he was able to repeat this success in his hometown.

Ironman winner 2015

In March 2015 he won the Ironman Melbourne in Australia . He won the oldest Canadian long-distance triathlon competition, the Challenge Penticton , for the third time in August 2016.

In August 2017, the then 31-year-old finished eighth at the World Triathlon Long Distance Championship. Jeff Symonds now lives in Vancouver with his partner .
