Jefta van Dinther (born March 4, 1980 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch- Swedish choreographer and dancer. Today van Dinther lives and works in Berlin and Stockholm .

Life and accomplishments

Van Dinther grew up in the Netherlands and Sweden. From 1999 to 2003 he attended the Amsterdam University of the Arts , where he studied modern and contemporary dance . He then worked as a dancer with various choreographers, including Mette Ingvartsen, Xavier Le Roy and Ivana Müller. Since 2008 he has been creating his own pieces as a choreographer.

Van Dinthers pieces can be seen regularly in the program of international venues and festivals, for example in Berlin at the Volksbühne , at the Komische Oper , at HAU Hebbel am Ufer and at Tanz im August , at London's Sadler's Wells Theater , at the Amsterdam City Theater , in the Center Georges-Pompidou and at the Théâtre national de Chaillot in Paris , at the Viennese dance and performance festival ImPulsTanz and in the Tanzquartier Wien .

In addition to producing his own pieces, van Dinther teaches choreography in various locations, including at the Stockholm Dance School . From 2012 to 2014 he was lecturer and artistic director of the master’s course in Choreography .

Many pieces are created in cooperation with the lighting designer Minna Tiikkainen and the sound designer David Kiers, with whom van Dinther has worked for many years. Van Dinther mainly produces his own works, but is also commissioned for pieces, for example by the Swedish Cullberg Ballet (2013 Plateau Effect and 2016 Protagonist ). For the Staatsballett Berlin , van Dinther adapted his 2013 piece Plateau Effect , which has been shown at the Komische Oper since the 2019/20 season.
