Jelena Michailowna Samolodtschikowa ( Russian Елена Михайловна Замолодчикова ; born September 19, 1982 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian gymnast . She was a two-time Olympic champion .

Life

Samolodchikova started gymnastics at the age of six. Her first international competitions of importance were the 1999 World Gymnastics Championships in Tianjin . There she won the horse jump and was third in the individual all-around. A silver medal resulted in the team all-around competition.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Jelena Samolodtschikowa took part in six competitions and won three medals. She won the individual competitions in horse jumping and on the ground and with the Russian team she was second in the team all-around competition. Four years later she won a bronze medal in the team all-around at the Olympic Games in Athens . In the horse jump she placed fourth.

Samolodchikova is also a two-time world champion. After 1999 she was again world champion in horse jumping at the 2002 gymnastics world championships in Debrecen .
