Jelmer Jens

Jelmer Jens (born May 1, 1982 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch chess player .

Life

Jelmer Jens attended the Revius Lyceum in Utrechtse Heuvelrug- Doorn and studied economics from 2000 to 2005 with a doctorate at the University of Utrecht with subsequent training in treasury - risk management . His main job is as a financial advisor at a management consultancy in 's-Hertogenbosch .

Jelmer Jens was able to win the Dutch youth championships in Hengelo : 1994 the U12 and 1996 the U14.

He played club chess in the Dutch master class until 2016 for the Schaakclub Utrecht , where he was also treasurer. He has been playing for the Leidsch Schaakgenootschap since the 2016/17 season and became Dutch team champion with them in 2018 and 2019 . In the Belgian interclubs he played for the SK Moretus Hoboken until the 2003/04 season . After the relegation of Hobokens, he moved for a season to the first team of Boey Temse , which was also relegated. Then he played for Royal Namur Echecs . After Namur's relegation in the 2008/09 season , Jelmer Jens played for the second team of Vliegend Peerd Bredene for one season. The team withdrew from the top Belgian league at the end of the season and Jens moved to La Tour d'Ans-Loncin . After the voluntary withdrawal from Ans-Loncin, he moved to Cercle Royal des Echecs de Liège et Echiquier Liègeois . In the top French league he played in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons for Club de AJE Noyon . In 2007 he took part in European Club Cups in Kemer with Royal Namur Echecs and in 2008 in Kallithea with Schaakclub Utrecht .

In Germany he first played for SG Bochum 31 and moved to the chess club Erkenschwick for the 2013/14 season .

Since August 2003 he has held the title of International Master . He achieved the standards for this at the Essent CC tournament in October 2001 in Hoogeveen , where he was able to defeat the grandmaster Magaram Magodemov , at the Caissa KTS tournament in January 2013 in Kecskemét and with overachievement at the International German Youth Championship in April 2003 in Deizisau , in which he finished second behind Lorenz Maximilian Drabke .

Its Elo rating is 2413 (as of February 2020), its highest rating to date was 2437 from June to September 2018.
