Jens König (born March 7, 1965 in Schmölln ) is a former German soccer player. For the FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and the BSG Wismut Aue he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association (DFV) .
Athletic career
In the area of the DFV
The auto mechanic König came to the third-class district division BSG Motor Weimar in the summer of 1984 via the agricultural company sports association (BSG) Traktor Altenkirchen and the junior departments of 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Motor Altenburg . The Weimar team, relegated from the GDR league in the previous season, managed to return immediately to the second division with König at the end of the 1984/85 season. König still played the 1985/86 season with Weimar in the GDR league, after which he moved to the upper division FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, the neighboring football focus of the region. There, König was initially assigned to the 2nd team, which played as a relegated team in the district league. Coach Hans Meyer also used the 1.87 meter tall king in the league team, where he played twelve point games between the 4th and 25th matchday. However, he was only in the starting line-up five times and only played two matches over the full length of the game.
After only one season, König moved back to Motor Weimar in the summer of 1987, but was able to offer himself there for another leap into the league, this time to BSG Wismut Aue in September of the same year. By October 1987, he completed three league games for the Auer. From November 1987, König then had to do his army service and was therefore not available to the team. At ASG Vorwärts Delitzsch, he played a key role in gaining the Leipzig district championship title in 1988/89 before returning to the Ore Mountains in spring 1989 after leaving the NVA . By the end of the season he was used in six other top division games of the BSG Wismut, only four times for 90 minutes. On July 12, 1989, König used an intertoto game in Örgryte , Sweden, together with his teammates André Köhler and Thomas Weiß to flee to West Germany.
First of all, König started negotiations with Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli . After no contract was signed there, he signed a contract with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . In the meantime, however, the GDR Football Association had obtained a ban from FIFA due to an unauthorized change of club, so that König could not be used at Eintracht. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , he returned to Wismut Aue, where he played nine league games from March 17, 1990. At the end of the season he was relegated to the NOFV league with bismuth . In the 1990/91 league season, König was part of the regular team from the start, of the 30 league games he played as a midfielder in 21 matches and scored five goals. Since the Wismut team could not qualify for professional football as second in the table, König left Aue for good at the end of the season. In his four seasons for the Auer he had played 44 competitive games and scored five goals. In the GDR Oberliga he was used in 18 matches in which he remained without a goal.
Player in the Federal Republic
In the 1991/92 season König played for Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin in the 2nd Bundesliga . Of the 32 point games, he played 20 games in which he remained as a left winger without scoring. After the end of the season, Blue-White's license was withdrawn and the club went bankrupt. König then moved to FC Sachsen Leipzig , with whom he played in the regional league until 1995 .
On July 1, 1995, König signed a contract with FC Carl Zeiss Jena, which plays in the 2nd Bundesliga . In Jena, too, König immediately became a regular player and played 28 of the 34 point games in midfield together with future national player Bernd Schneider . After König also belonged to the core team in 1996/97 with 25 point matches, he was only used as a supplementary player under the new coach Frank Engel at the beginning of the 1997/98 season. On the 11th match day, October 24, 1997, König played his last competitive game as a substitute for FC Carl Zeiss. This meant he had a total of 63 competitive games with two goals in Jena, including two goalless cup games.
On November 15, 1997, König played in a cup game for the regional division Chemnitzer FC . Then coach Christoph Franke used him consistently in the championship, so that König had 14 league appearances by the end of the 1997/98 season. In the following seasons too, König was part of the team. In 1999 he won promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with the Chemnitz team, in which he again completed 27 of the 34 point games in the 1999/2000 season. After 67 championship games with seven goals, two encounters in the promotion round and seven cup games (each without a hit), König moved to Chemnitz in the summer of 2000 for the then fourth division club VfB . After two years with the successor to Motor “Fritz-Heckert”, König ended his sporting career.
