Jerry Hadley

Jerry Hadley (born June 16, 1952 in Princeton , Illinois , † July 18, 2007 in Poughkeepsie , NY , USA ) was an American opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Hadley, who grew up in Manlius , Illinois , attended Bradley University in Peoria . He graduated with a Masters in Singing from the University of Urbana - Champaign .

After engagements in his native Illinois, Hadley was discovered in 1978 by the American opera singer and general director of the New York City Opera Beverly Sills , who immediately offered him a contract with the New York City Opera, where he made his debut as Arturo Bucklow in Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor gave.

Jerry Hadley was one of the most promising young singers in the USA in the 1980s, performing on the world's leading opera stages, such as the New York Metropolitan Opera , La Scala in Milan , the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and the Hamburg State Opera as well as at the Salzburg Festival occurred. At the New York Metropolitan Opera he was celebrated in his roles as Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata and Tamino in Mozart's Magic Flute .

His last major appearance was in May 2007 as Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton in a new production of Puccini's Madame Butterfly in Brisbane, Australia .

On July 10, 2007, Hadley was found unconscious at his Clinton home with a gunshot wound to the head . Since Jerry Hadley suffered from depression , the police assume a suicide attempt . Jerry Hadley died from his serious injuries on July 18, 2007.
