The Jezioro Miedwie (German Madüsee ; also Madüe-See ) is a lake in the west of the Pomeranian Lake District near Stargard , about ten kilometers north of the city of Pyrzyce (Pyritz) and about 25 kilometers southeast of the city of Stettin in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . The only outflow and notable tributary of the lake is the Płonia (Plone) .
The Madüsee is home to many other fish species, the Madüsee whitefish , an endemic population of the Baltic sea beacon ( Coregonus maraena ), which was previously regarded as a subspecies in its own right , as well as two types of small crustaceans as ice age relics . The banks (39 kilometers long) encompass valuable moorland areas and are home to a significant breeding population of the bearded tit . Its neighboring communities belong to the Powiaten (districts) Stargard and Gryfino . Especially in the north of the lake, in the place Morzyczyn ( Moritzfelde ), there are tourist offers.
The lake appears as Meduvi in a document dated to 1220, which is recognized as spurious, and as Meduwe in a document dated to 1226, but also spurious. The first secure mentions of the lake are as Medui in a document of the Pomeranian Duke Barnim I from 1248 and as Meduge in a document from the same Duke from 1249.
2000 years ago the water level was around 14 m above sea level. NN , in historical times then higher, before 1770 at 16 m above sea level. NN . The increase could be caused by the fact that the Kolbatz monastery had dammed the lake to operate water mills. Today's water level at 14 m above sea level. NN was set in 1770 by the lowering of the Madusees under the direction of the master builder David Gilly . On the orders of King Frederick II of Prussia, he carried out renovation work . The amelioration plan was designed in 1769 by Franz Balthasar Schönberg von Brenkenhoff . Approximately 3,585 hectares (14,338 acres) of usable land for 150 families were gained. The newly created villages ("colonies") include Giżyn ( Giesenthal ), Lipki ( Löllhöfel ), Młyny ( Möllendorf ) and Grędziec ( Schöningen ).
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Madüsee was the scene of important research in physical limnology (Müller-Navarra, 2005).
