Jim Berney

Jim Berney is a special effects artist who in 2006 for the film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe in the category Best visual effects for the Oscar nomination.

Life

He received his undergraduate degrees in computer science and economics from the University of California, Irvine , studied computer architecture at the Royal Stockholm University of Technology, and received his masters degree in computer science from California Polytechnic State University , San Luis Obispo . He then worked for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for three years as an ADA programmer. He then moved to the visual effects company Metrolight , for which he worked on films such as Batman Forever , Mortal Kombat and Alert: Red 2 .

In 1996 he joined Sony Pictures Imageworks as a VFX Supervisor , where he worked on such films as Starship Troopers , Stuart Little , Evolution and Matrix Reloaded . In 2005, he was the visual effects director on The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia . For this film he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 2006 together with Dean Wright , Bill Westenhofer , and Scott Farrar . In 2012 he moved to Digital Domain as head of the Florida studio .
