Jim Hobbs

Jim Hobbs (* around 1968 in Fort Wayne , Indiana ) is an American jazz - saxophonist , bandleader and composer , who, according to All About Jazz is one of the talentiertesten alto saxophonist of his generation.

Live and act

Hobbs grew up in the northeastern part of the state of Indiana. In 1986 he received a scholarship to study composition at Berklee College of Music and in the late 1990s he worked with the band Prima Materia , with which the first recordings were made. In 1993 his debut album Babadita (with Timo Shanko and Django Carranza) was released on the Swedish Silkheart label, followed by Peace & Hip Grease and other recordings in the 1990s with the same line-up, under the name Fully Celebrated Orchestra , a piano-less trio in the tradition of the early groups of Ornette Coleman . In Boston he also played with Charlie Kohlhase and Nate McBride .

From the 1990s Hobbs worked in New York City and in the Boston area, a. a. with the Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra , Jacob Williams Beyond Biology Band (with Steve Lantner ), Taylor Ho Bynum , in Trio Aych with Joe Morris and Mary Halvorson , in a duo with Laurence Cook and in Fred Ho's The Green Monster Big Band (2004). In the field of jazz he was involved in 25 recording sessions between 1989 and 2011. In 2010 he performed with the Bynum Sextet at the International Jazz Festival Saalfelden .
