Jo Blankenburg , originally Jochen Fuchs, (born March 18, 1972 in Kulmbach ) is a German composer . He became known for soundtracks for feature films and television films, trailers, short films and documentaries . He lives and works in Los Angeles .

Life

Jo Blankenburg started playing the piano and drums at the age of six . As a teenager he played in two jazz bands. He went to New York City for two years , composed and arranged music in the genres of funk , soul and rhythm and blues and worked with various New York musicians.

He became better known through a prize at the “MTV Europe Songwriting Contest” and was able to conclude contracts with Warner Chappell Germany and Warner Brothers Music . Since 2005, Jo Blankenburg has been composing and arranging soundtracks for various formats, such as TV series, trailers and films. In 2006 he graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston . In 2007 he went to Auckland ( New Zealand ) and signed an exclusive contract with the Motion Picture Advertising Company Immediate Music, founded by Jeff Fayman and Yoav Goren, with whom he has worked since then.

His compositions are stylistically assigned to so-called epic music , which is aimed at triggering certain feelings, for example in the context of the soundtracks for films. His works are orchestral and integrate African chants and percussion, jazz, rock , funk, live instruments as well as electronic sound generation, besides he wrote pure piano music . His compositions are also stylistically based on the respective task or topic. Together with his brother, Andy Fox (Andreas Fuchs), Jo Blankenburg produced a multimedia project for the 61st Berlin Film Festival 2011, "Oil Spill - The Human Ueberfluss" , which reflects the fate of the oil-contaminated birds of the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico through the artistic implementation with seven women who were doused with oil and whose reactions were recorded on film.

In 2013, Jo Blankenburg started together with Maya Haddi, Andy Fox and Nitish Raina an initiative to help victims of the war in Syria under the event title “The Rebirth” . The film shows uninterpreted scenes from Syria , which are accompanied by Blankenburg's music.
