Joachim Bertele

Joachim Bertele (born December 23, 1967 ) is a German diplomat . Since August 10, 2021 Bertele is with his wife Christina Beinhoff per job sharing Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Kingdom of Sweden .

Life and education

Bertele is married to the German diplomat Christina Beinhoff and has two children.

In 1992 he passed the first state examination in law in Konstanz and completed his legal clerkship from 1992 to 1995 with stations in Freiburg , Lörrach , New Delhi ( India ) and Stuttgart . The second state examination in law followed in 1996 in Freiburg. In 1996 he obtained a Master of Law degree from the University of Cambridge ( England ) and in 1997 he received his doctorate in law from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

career

After joining the Foreign Service in 1997, Bertele initially completed the preparatory service for the higher foreign service until 1999 . From 1999 to 2001 he was employed as a consultant for relations with Serbia and Montenegro at the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office . From 2001 to 2004 he was political advisor at the German Embassy in Seoul in South Korea .

In 2004 he was transferred to the Federal Chancellery , where he was a consultant in the foreign policy department responsible for the Middle East , Asia , Africa and Latin America until 2007 . In 2007 he moved to the office of the French Prime Minister François Fillon , where he acted as an advisor on Franco-German relations . In 2009 there was a short downtime as a European representative at the German Embassy in Paris .

In 2010 Bertele became deputy head of the department for relations with the states of Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe in the Federal Chancellery. From 2014 to 2015 he was promoted to head of this work unit. In 2015 Bertele was promoted to Head of the Foreign Policy, Security Policy and Global Issues Group in the Federal Chancellery, salary group B6 . From 2019 to 2021 he was the representative for questions of general and special international law at the Federal Foreign Office.

He has been Co-Ambassador to Stockholm since August 10, 2021 and will take turns in the management of the diplomatic mission with his wife every eight months.
