Joachim Ebert

Joachim Ebert (born March 6, 1930 in Rabenstein ; † October 1, 1999 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German classical philologist and sports historian.

Joachim Ebert passed his Abitur in 1948 and was then initially a laborer until 1949. In 1949/50 he attended the teacher training college in Koethen and was then an elementary school teacher for several weeks. In the same year he began studying classical philology and physical education at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and graduated in 1956 with the state examination. He then became a research assistant at the Institute for Physical Education at the MLU, and in 1959 at the Institute for Classical Studies. In April 1961 Ebert received his doctorate with Werner Peek and Gerhard Lukas with a thesis on the subject of the Pentathlon of antiquity . After completing his doctorate, Ebert became a senior assistant at the seminar or research assistant after the restructuring to the Institute for Classical Philology. In January 1969 he completed his habilitation with the work Greek epigrams for winners at gymnastic and hipster agons , reviewers were again Peek and Lukas and Berthold Häsler . In September 1983 he became a full professor for Classical Philology in the Oriental and Classical Studies section of the MLU. In his work, Ebert combined sports science with classical philology and ancient history .
