Abraham Gottlieb Raabe

Abraham Gottlieb Raabe (born August 1, 1764 in Bernstadt ad Eigen ; † July 20, 1845 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German classical philologist .

Abraham Gottlieb Raabe, the son of the cloth maker Johann Christian Raabe, studied philology and theology in Lauban and Leipzig and graduated with a master's degree . On December 13, 1794 he was appointed associate professor of philosophy at the University of Leipzig. In 1802 he moved to the University of Wittenberg as a full professor, which in 1817 was merged with the University of Halle to form the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg . In Halle Raabe worked as a professor of Greek language and literature and as director of the university library until his death in 1845. He was an honorary member of the Halle Masonic lodge to the three swords and remained a member of the Leipzig lodge Apollo .
